This Sound-Absorbing Modular Wall Lets You Build an Office Anywhere

Design company Layer has created a new modular system capable of replacing plasterboard walls and temporary partitions. Called Scale, the quick-to-assemble, environmentally-friendly system is claimed to be sound-absorbing, which could be just the ticket if you’re trying to work in an open-plan space.

Scale’s made up of pressed, recycled hemp tiles that clip onto an injection-moulded ABS framework, which is mounted on aluminium base plates. The framework clips together with a polymer bolt system, and the tiles are held in place with magnetic fixings.

Layer says you can use Scale to build either solid walls or fenestrated ones (walls with windows). As it’s available in a range of colours, you won’t need to worry about painting either.

It’s supposed to be easy to install, so you could increase the size of your workspace at any point, rather than wasting time trying to find a new home, all while blocking out unwanted noise.
