So this article in the Times about TiVo’s plans to provide on-demand television streaming is almost real news, because it does finally confirm what exactly TiVo’s plan is to save itself from obscurity. What it doesn’t say, though, is how much it will cost and what content it will provide, meaning for now that this is just every other video-over-the-internet companies out there that promise big things and end up never getting off the ground.
If I could pay Netflix-style pricing for television shows, though, I would be all over it. Imagine being able to queue up a Season Pass for a show and then purchase and download the episodes your TiVo hadn’t gotten to yet. But I’m sure as shootin’ not paying DVD rental prices for low-resolution television programs. Developing!
