Tom’s Hardware Guide review of the DP-450 from KiSS Technology, the first DVD player that will also play videos encoded in DivX. DivX is a video codec that can compress video to much smaller sizes than MPEG-2, which is what is used for regular DVDs. If you’ve ever downloaded a movie over the Internet using Kazaa, odds are what you’ve downloaded was compressed using DivX. The DP-450 means that you can burn that file onto a CD-R and watch it on your television rather than on your PC, and Tom’s Hardware thinks that DVD players that play DivX files as well might become standard soon, just as most new CD players support MP3 playback as well.
