Toshiba announced it will ship a 100GB 1.8-inch hard disk next month, the largest yet of this size. The little drive spins at 4200rpm and happens to be exactly the right size to fit into an Apple iPod.

Although Toshiba was careful not to mention anything about its relationship with Apple and how its 1.8-inch disks occupy the interiors of Apple's 80GB iPods, this is some pretty solid evidence that we'll be seeing a 100GB iPod soon, perhaps around the same time we see the new iPhone.

DISCUSSION

I always like the comments on how much it costs to fill up an ipod or any mp3 player for that matter with legaly downloaded music, like its the only kind you are allowed to have on. I welcome these larger ipods, and will probably hold out for the 100gb to buy a new one cause my 60 just isnt cutting it. I have over 200GB of music, and barely any of it is downloaded, but its all legal, see they used to have these things called CD's and I find that a bi-monthly stroll down to the local used CD shop, I can pickup usualy 2 - 4 albums for the price of one itunes album, and can find just about anything i want there. its great.

Another advantage to these larger ipods is that you can encode at larger bitrates. I encode all of my music between 256 and 320lbps depending on the kind of music. I want lots of music with me, and I want quality music.
