Toshiba’s Portege 2000: Worth buying?

By

Reading time 1 minute

I’ve been looking for an inexpensive ultralight laptop to use just for travel or bringing down to Teany, the cafe a few floors below Gizmodo HQ. So far the top contender is Toshiba’s Portege 2000. They’re not so pricey these days, and it seems like it’d be light enough and powerful to get the job done (i.e. updating Gizmodo while on the road). Anyone have an opinion on the Portege 2000? Is it worth getting? Any other semi-affordable ultralights worth considering?

PS – We’re testing out the comments section of the site (one of the reasons we did a new install of Movable Type was to get comments to work properly), so feel free to post your comments there if you’d like. Assuming there are no more bugs, we’ll be making this a regular feature on the site.
