If you’re going to row across the Atlantic Ocean, you’ve earned the right to get a little extravagant with your rowboat, I say. French adventuress Anne Quemere has made it across the pond once before, but if she completes her Cape Cod to Brittany, France tour this time she’ll be the first woman to row across the Atlantic in both directions. Her 22-foot rowboat, Le Connetable, weighs about 1,300 pounds and will be packed to the gills with enough food, water, and equipment to sustain Quemere during her three month journey. In addition to built-in GPS, Le Connetable will have an Argos Beacon to report her position by satellite (sort of reverse-GPS) or emit a distress call, if necessary, as well as a desalinator for converting the fishy salt water into fishy, drinkable fresh water. Oh, and she’ll carry an Iridium sat phone for talking to her friends about her day.
