Nicole Saphier, President Donald Trump’s pick to be Surgeon General, released her financial disclosure forms this week in the lead-up to her confirmation hearing on Sept. 16. The forms, posted online Thursday, contain an odd mix of just about everything the MAHA movement and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ostensibly hate, from stock in Big Pharma companies to fast food.
Saphier’s tech investments include Nvidia, Apple, Micron, Shopify, Amazon, Palantir, Uber, Alphabet, Oracle, Airbnb, and a host of others. She also holds stock in tobacco companies like Philip Morris, Altria, and British American Tobacco, perhaps a bad look since about 480,000 Americans die from smoking-related illness each year.
Her medicine and health insurance-related stocks include Eli Lilly, Medtronic, UnitedHealth, Johnson & Johnson, and Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, while her energy holdings include fossil fuel companies like Phillips 66, Chevron, Marathon Petroleum, and Exxon Mobil.
When it comes to fast food and sugary drinks, Saphier holds stock in McDonald’s, PepsiCo., Coca-Cola, and Yum Brands, which operates Taco Bell and KFC, among other restaurants. Saphier has promised to divest from her holdings if she’s confirmed.
The disclosures indicate that she previously resigned from her roles in media. Saphier was a Fox News contributor and hosted a podcast called Wellness Unmasked that was distributed by iHeart Media. She announced on May 5 that she would discontinue the podcast in preparation for her confirmation as Surgeon General.
Saphier also notes that she could receive royalties from four books she authored, including titles like Panic Attack: Playing Politics with Science in the Fight Against COVID-19 and Make American Healthy Again: How Bad Behavior and Big Government Caused a Trillion-Dollar Crisis, both of which were published by HarperCollins.
Saphier notes that she’s received an advance for a future book that hasn’t been written yet but will refrain from promoting any of her books while she holds her position. If she keeps that promise, it would be a welcome change for the Trump regime, given the tendency of the president himself to profit off the White House. Trump has made at least $2 billion since returning to office in 2025, according to estimates from the New York Times.
Saphier was hand-picked by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the nation’s top health official and a man who literally doesn’t believe in the germ theory of disease. Trump’s first nomination for surgeon general in 2025 was Janette Nesheiwat, who withdrew after her medical credentials were questioned. Nesheiwat, a former Fox News contributor, didn’t even advance far enough to get a confirmation hearing with the Senate. Wellness influencer Casey Means was nominated next, sitting for a confirmation hearing, but Trump withdrew her in April 2026.
Saphier will likely face questions about her right-wing views next week during her confirmation hearing, but it’s unclear whether her past investments in tobacco companies, for instance, will draw any scrutiny. Congress is notoriously filled with members who make money from the stock market based on inside information, and very few have clean hands in that regard.
