Oh my, teachers in a rural Ugandan school were unknowingly using a live bomb as a bell. They would bang the bomb with stones to call the school's 700 students to class. It was a miracle nobody caused it to detonate.

The bomb was discovered by several shocked members of the Anti-Mine Network. Ironically, the mine awareness group was visiting the school to teach children how to identify these explosive devices. Once their shock wore off, the team immediately moved the bomb to a safe place for detonation.

I guess bombs like this are common in Uganda. After two decades of rebel fighting, the countryside is littered with these carelessly discarded weapons. [Reuters; Shutterstock/Kuznetsov Alexey]
