Bob Schreib Jr. makes an interesting case for the inclusion of UPC codes on individual bullets at Nanodot.
Let’s use Nanotechnology techniques from the microchip industry to etch microscopic UPCs onto tiny sections or micro-rods of ceramic or stainless steel, and install them inside of ALL newly-manufactured bullets.
Bob’s idea (Bob is director of product marketing at Symbol, a UPC-scanner company) seems to have some merit before being swiftly shot down (ha. ha.) by a fellow reader at Nanodot. The reader lists several valid reasons why this approach for tagging individual bullets would fail, the least of which being the gun lobby’s strong sway. Still, the concept of individually tagging bullets is promising, if it can be done in a way that doesn’t significantly increase their cost or reduce their stopping power.
