It’s not that I’m in a Star Trek mood today—it’s that everyone else has been for the last year, apparently. Case in point: the Vocera communications badge, which at the press of a button can voice dial other badge-wearers via WiFi. Even better, as in the hospital example given in the article, a server-side voice recognition system can even respond to prompts such as “I need an anesthesiologist,” or “I need another plate of cocaine, STAT,” and connect the user to the nearest one (presuming in my made-up example that the plate of cocaine is wearing a communications badge.)
