“Demons suffer in hell … gods rule in heaven … and men stride the earth” in Snow Girl and the Dark Crystal, a new fantasy film from China. We have no idea what’s going on here, story-wise, but there is so much eye candy in this trailer: Epic wire stunts! Fiery arrows! Shape shifting! CG beasts! Costumes to die for!
Plot? Who cares when everything looks this pretty? But for those who need a little something more — and the presence of dreamboat stars Chen Kun and Li Bingbing, or the talents of cinematographer Peter Pau (an Oscar winner for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) aren’t enough — here’s a little more background from the Hollywood Reporter:
Shot in various scenic locations in China, Zhong Kui: Snow Girl and the Dark Crystal tells the story of legendary Chinese anti-hero Zhong Kui, a young man endowed with mysterious powers who is forced into a battle among the realms of Heaven, Earth and Hell in the course of his attempt to save his countrymen and the woman he loves.
