We were pretty excited when we found out that Kingsman: The Secret Service scene-stealer Sofia Boutella was cast as the titular monster in Universal Studio’s The Mummy reboot. It’s a different take on the iconic monster and it has the potential to jump start the expanded Monsters universe that Universal wants so badly.
So when photos surfaced online of Boutella in her Mummy costume, we were surprised to see how simple it is. If anything, it’s a throwback to the original films.
According to ComingSoon.net, the photos come via the World Entertainment News Network (WENN), which is an entertainment news wire service. They were taken in London, where shooting is currently underway.

Granted, we won’t know what she’ll look like after CGI and other effects come into play in post-production, but you can count us as interested. It looks like Universal is going for a retro look, which can definitely work in its favor and attract the old-school horror fans that would’ve been skeptical.
The film stars Boutella, along with Tom Cruise and Annabelle Wallis. The film also stars Russell Crowe, who will be playing Dr. Jekyll and will most likely be showing up in other expanded universe movies. It’s set to be released on June 9, 2017.
