What's new in the shops this week? New squabbles with Orson Scott Card's Formics, a superheroic look at Bill Willingham's Fables, and graphic novels a-go-go!

What first issues do we have this week? Planet Hulk writer Greg Pak tackles the Silver Surfer (Marvel)in the Sentinel of the Skyways' new series, and Garth Ennis writes Jennifer Blood (Dynamite), a title about a suburban homemaker with a vigilante streak. The Cartoon Network series Young Justice (DC) receives a new ongoing, but no word whether the Flaming C will appear or not. Marvel is also printing a brand-new miniseries that occurs within Orson Scott Card's Ender's universe, Formic Wars: Burning Earth (above).

In the latest issue of Fables (DC), there's a new arc titled "Super Group" — in this story, the Fableverse finally addresses the idea of superheroes, which have been conspicuously unaddressed for the last 100 or so issues. And in Hellblazer (DC), John Constantine's in danger of losing his magical sanctum thanks to gentrification and an unscrupulous condo developer. Peter Milligan's on pens.

GI Joe Cobra II (IDW) wraps up its run after last issue's assassination of a big-name Cobra operative, and Jonathan Hickman's S.H.I.E.L.D. (Marvel) miniseries concludes with a brawl between Leonardo Da Vinci vs. Sir Isaac Newton.

As for graphic novels, Dark Horse is publishing a volume of Carla Speed McNeil's award-winning science fiction webcomic Finder in Finder: Voice and reprinting Joss Whedon's miniseries Fray: Future Slayer. For TV adaptations, Wildstorm's Fringe: Tales From The Fringe and IDW's True Blood are both collected today. Also noteworthy is Nick Spencer's supernatural high school Image series Morning Glories, which receives its first graphic novel tomorrow.

As usual, here's the list of everything being released to comic stores tomorrow, and you can find your nearest comic retailer here. And if anybody needs me, I'll be playing Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Even though I haven't played the game yet, I've already decided my team will be MODOK, Mike Haggar, and the Mango Sentinel.

Dammit dammit dammit I swore I wasn't going to get Fables monthly and just get the trades. SUPERHEROES? Here, Willingham, take all my monies!

Also, this is the end of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s first volume, but there's going to be another one.
