Few people expected that Bryan Cranston would prove such a badass in Breaking Bad after playing Hal, the goofy dad from Malcolm in the Middle. In this sketch, we learn the truth: that Walter White’s entire story was just Hal’s nightmare.
This “alternate ending” for Breaking Bad takes a page from Newhart’s playbook, recasting the entire series as a dream. Here, though, the bonus is that we essentially get Hal tearfully explaining the plot of Breaking Bad—and a perfect guest appearance by his Malcolm co-star Jane Kaczmarek as Lois. Lois is usually so amorous, but in the middle of the night, she’s not impressed by the thought of Hal as Heisenberg.
