What Is This?

Is that a stained glass window dedicated to man’s excess? Nope. A MoMA exhibit capturing our disposable lifestyles? Sorry. A corporate logo treatment for a recycling facility? Not exactly, but it is related to turning trash into something beautiful.

The Cleanoscope was recently installed at a playground in Mumbai, India, and isn’t your run-of-the-mill public trash can. On the inside you’ll find a set of two mirrors reflecting the trash, creating a beautiful three-sided kaleidoscope effect that encourages people to properly dispose of their garbage instead of just leaving it on the ground.

Even with its unorthodox shape the can still holds almost 30 pounds of refuse, although on a practical level I imagine those mirrors are going to get smeared and dirty in no time. [designboom]
