World’s first blue laser DVD recorder out next month from Sony. Since blue light has a shorter wavelength than red light, a blue laser DVD recorder can cram more data into the same amount of space. A single Blu-ray disc can hold up to 23GB of data, enough for two hours of high-definition video. These aren’t going to be cheap anytime soon (this first recorder has a retail price of about $3,800), but high-definition DVD is going to be the standard for home theaters set ups within a few years.
