While many rumors have earmarked IBM’s Power970 chip (AKA the Apple G5) to provide number crunching duty for Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox 2, Rob Enderle of TechNewsWorld calls that “wishful thinking by a few Apple loyalists.” His guess (tech reporting is hard work!) is that the Xbox 2 will be AMD Inside, with a 64-bit core manufactured by IBM. You have to admit, the rumors of a triple-970 powered Xbox are pretty wild.
