Xbox 2: By ‘AMD’ We Mean ‘IBM’

So lots of you decided to let me know that TechNewsWorld’s Rob Enderle is a prevaricating anti-Apple crapweasel. And hey, that’s fine, but anyone is free to speculate about the innards of the Xbox 2, especially when they are a professional tech journalist. So when he said the next Xbox would use AMD chips instead of IBM, I thought, “Hey, this is the sort of unfounded speculation that makes my news hard.” At least until concerned reader Chris pointed out this interview with Jeff Bench, Vice-President of IBM’s System and Technology Group.

CBS.MW: Does it seem like the Power processor gets less notoriety?

A. Benck: I don’t know if you’ve seen it, maybe you haven’t based on your comment, but we’re getting Power everywhere. We basically have the trifecta of game devices, with recent wins at not only Game Cube and Xbox, but also moving into next-generation game systems all the way up to the Power architecture going into our high-end pSeries and iSeries platforms.
