Xbox 2: Hard Drive or No?

By

Reading time 1 minute

It’s getting so complicated. First came the rumors that the Xbox 2 [at right, in mythical prototype form] wouldn’t have a hard drive. Then, enough hemming and hawing from Microsoft to imply that maybe there would be one after all. Then the announcement from M-Systems, the flash memory maker, that the next Xbox would be using their flash RAM inside the Xbox, along with rumors that Microsoft would require user data and save games to be saved over the internet (not going to happen, by the way, no matter how ‘online’ the next Xbox is positioned to be.) Then add to that today’s proclamation from M-Systems CEO, Dov Moran, that the Xbox definitely would not have a hard drive.

So that’s it, right? No hard drive.

Right, until Microsoft’s rebuttal soon after that Moran was “talking way over his head”. So now we’re back were we started, except everyone’s a little more tired and angry (About the Xbox 2, not just this post.)
