So this is pretty major: Yahoo! has announced their new music rental service, called Yahoo Music Unlimited, that will allow unlimited downloads (using Windows Media Player 10 DRM) for $7 a month, or just $60 a year. Comparable services, from the likes of Napster and Real, cost in the $15 a month range, so we’re talking half-price here. I don’t actually see how many songs are available on the service—minor label support is one the most attractive features of Apple’s otherwise not-that-great iTunes Music Store—but I would imagine it’s comparable to the other Windows Media services these days.
