So I think we gave a little remainders blip to the mention of Yahoo’s mobile search function for phones, but a lot more people are talking about it today, so I thought we’d revisit it. The main difference between Yahoo’s and Google’s mobile search seems to be that Yahoo’s is an actual mobile web page (instead of SMS, like Google) and only works on AT&T/Cingular and Sprint (instead of anyone that supports SMS). So in general, it sounds like Google’s implementation is better to me, but it really boils down to individual preference.
I’m wondering, though, have any of you been using either mobile search much? Any preferences? Found any handy tricks? How about problems with the services? Send your comments to me and I’ll post the good ones up.

I use “Pocket Google” on my Treo 600 everyday. Google detects the web user agent ID string of “Blazer” and serves a reduced complexity google. Given how bare Google is to begin with, it is really stripped down.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a direct URL for it since it is done entirely based on the user agent. You would have to fake the UA to have it serve it to you.

Works fine using Blazer and Webviewer on my Treo 600 on the Tmobile network. Only thing is, the Webviewer version gives me a Yahoo search function (the full search function, not only the “Yahoo Local” thingy)

Google search has been really handy in NYC. Running around for costume items the other i did a search for ‘army navy 10017’ and found four nearby locations (one was an outdated listing and no longer there). It’s like a free vindigo that’s faster to load, you just need to remember the zips for the different nyc neighborhoods and you’re good.
