Sprint's CTO says its WiMax service Xohm is a go for an April launch with around 10 devices available. Good news for Sprint! Bad news for you: "People will be excited about our rates. They won't be ecstatic about them because we're not going to give it away." Translation: It's more than you wanna pay. [Reuters]

Don't subsidize the cost of the devices and don't subsidize the cost of the service and watch the free market work its magic.
so it will cost one million dollars to use and the frickin' transceivers will be mounted to sharks' heads.
I predict a 99.99 price point. Who else offers 3g type service? I'd love to get an HSPDA or WiMax module for my everun. If coverage was everywhere (or at least very widespread) and unlimited data transfer I could see shelling out 50 bones no problem. Then I'd just get rid of my Comcast bill.
I predict based on conversations with execs at WiMAX World in chicago that the price will start at $29.99-39.99...WiMAX for Sprint is to compete with both 3G and fixed line offerings. Sprint does not own any last mile infrastructure, hence they will price it closer to the current entry level pricing of ADLS and Cable.
@Brookespeed: im with you on this if the coverage was everywhere i mean western virginia, maryland anywhere outside of big cities in montana, west virginia, idaho etc.
I'd happily play 2 or 300 per month if i could get coverage where i want
@Brookespeed: Nearly every carrier in Chicago.
I predict $79.99 based on the fact that I think normal people would be willing to pay $39.99, and these things tend to cost twice as much as normal people are willing to pay.
Then again I'm including myself in "Normal People", and the validity of that is up for debate.
I predict $1 per month for the service but $5000 for the hardware. In your face, wimax fanboys!
"Translation: It's more than you wanna pay." -- Considering I wanna pay nothing, but have to settle for paying something, I don't doubt it.
i say it will be about $120-$150/mo right now they charge $60/mo and people take it with out thinking because they the fast comparing to other companies so now is even more faster
just my $.05
This is great, but (let's assume) with an 'outrageous' price point and limited roll-out, who's their target market segment?
One can get 3.6Mb from AT&T's 3G offering for ~$20/month, and Verizon offers 20M/5M fiber for $50.
Though, having the competition is good....
so if they're not giving it away, they will just...hand it to us, for free, right?
I also predict it will be well into the three figures (after taxes, ie possibly $199) per month for a tier of service that actually offers noticeable performance over EVDO. Don't forget that Sprint is the only nationwide provider of 3G data (Verizon doesn't count because the restrictions placed on their service render it unusable). Sprint's already charging $60 a month for EVDO, so WiMAX is gonna have to be a hell of a lot more.
