Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of a mini microwave. But looking at this thing, I find it hard to justify spending $130 just so I can conveniently heat up some crappy instant coffee or some Ramen noodles at my desk. However, if the manufacturer decides to make a USB-powered version, we will talk. Measures 10.5"x12"x10." [Product Page via Random Good Stuff]

USB powered! That would be fantastic. You'd only need a cable with 20 or 30 USB plugs on the end.
@Maxwells_Nylon_Hammer:
lmao... and one big ass USB bus... and a whole lotta ports...
No power/spec information on it. We want something like this at our work, but industrial strength. Anyone know of anything like this (size wise, not portability)...but good?
Really? A mini-microwave? Are office workers too lazy nowadays to walk 20 feet to the breakroom for their cup of coffee??
Wow, looks awesome but completely useless.
Couldn't you also reheat awesome coffee in it also?
Nearly Useless? Where do I order one, its going under the back seat of my truck.
@designbean:If it doesn't have power/spec information, then it is probably utter bullshit.
Looks like an underwear gnome would fit in there.
does it fit a bag of popcorn? maybe even one of those mini ones with 16 kernals in there? (and only 8 of them actually pop)
That's ridiculous. There's no way a poodle would fit in there.
Would a hot pocket fit in there? :)
Thou shalt NOT microwave coffee.
That said, what is this thing good for?
great for office cubicles
$130?
Can't you just buy a real microwave for that?
Hey, that's theSkyMall catalog. This is meant for in-flight use via the EmPower® socket. Perfect for heating that cup of Joe at 35,000 feet (10 688m) or with a little ingenuity, nuking your junk while jet setting.
There is nothing I like more than taking my Roomba and my Sharper Image Ionic Breeze bought from the SkyMall and demonstrating them while in flight.
This is just another cheap knock off of the Apple G4 Cube. Next product please!
They might sell a few of these. Most offices seem to have break rooms with microwaves and refrigerators now-a-days, yet mini-fridges are popular anyway.
When I worked for the railroad, we would put soup cans in the engine compartment to heat them up for lunch.
It's probably only good for heating up tea and instant coffee - nothing wrong with that. Probably a good thing for some small offices.
Just big enough for a hot pocket.
@s017jrs: Agreed, but sometimes it's unavoidable.
With this, a mini fridge, and the Mtube... I can fulfill my lifestyle fantasy as a smurf.
Does anyone else see this, IT LOOKS LIKE A GAMECUBE!
Yes, being able to reheat that cold cup of Timmies is always good, also this reminds me of a joke. What's pink, bubbling and scratching at the window? A baby in a microwave. Though I suspect with this one the scratching would be a non issue, seeing as how the baby would have to go in to the microwave in pieces.
@Jones Foyer: I can't believe somebody beat me to it
All that thing really needs is some custom containers (maybe stackable like Russian Dolls) that can optimize use of that microwave. e.g. curved bowl/plates that will hold what would normally go on a full size plate. They could easily stack right on top of the microwave (or better yet, under it in kind of a short grandfather clock setup, for convenience.
@fusiongt: Yes. And it will be served two ways, either frozen in the middle, or boiling lava hot. And have you tried our new Hot Pocket Hot Pocket? It's Hot Pocket wrapped inside a Hot Pocket.
jingle: "Hot Pocket."
Close. It is actually a NeXT Cube.
looks like it's big enough for this guy

@gokor: Isn't that how hot pockets always come out of microwaves, be they submolecular or walk-in in size..
If you really want to sell a microwave oven to the cube-warren crowd, you need to size it to fit inside a standard file drawer, and put the door in the top.
Someone found a use for my old Gamecube, how nice.
This is friggin crap, I can go down to any WalMart right now and pickup a nice little microwave for $35. Oh darn, I guess I'll lose the portability though huh? Who the hell has honestly sat around thinking "this hot pocket is great, but I wish I could cook it while I'm out walking my dog"? Guess it will be good for when "Pimp my Ride" mods a Razor scooter into a diner. Christ.
This would need a minimum of 120 USB ports, not just 30.
small animals maybe?
Hey, I work for the company that did the R&D on this. A little company in Cleveland. I helped take apart three microwaves to design the electronics for this.
...especially when one considers that the #1 best use of a microwave is cooking popcorn.
@theweerdough: any interesting stories about the development process? you working on this made me think of the Cube films where one of it's captives says, "i just designed the shell! i don't know they were going to put people inside!" hehe.
remember the video a while back where they took apart a microwave and made a heat gun? that would be more fun for office microwaving. you could just get a little stand and aim it at you item. until it got knocked over and randomly blasted something (or someone.)
You can buy a full sized microwave for half the price. They already invented this, it's called the break room. That thing is probably in the 200 watt range for power, it's ridiculous to the point it has no uses.
the idea is to be able to travel with it in a car and to be able to take t into hotel rooms. The price is not the issue. How much is the watt power?? The higher the number the faster it cooks.
