Honestly, I still don't get the appeal of this thing: It's a computer crammed inside of an HDTV. Woohoo. But Lumenlab's Q42 is now priced and shipping for those interested in the hot hybrid action: $3850, which isn't stroke-inducing, but definitely more than buying each separately. But hey, it's handmade. [Lumenlab via Crave]

Wow, looks pretty unstable. I bet if you slam the door too hard this bad boy will definitely topple over.
Handmade? How'd they fit all those transistors into the chip?
Really small tweezers?
@TonyTriple: I'm sure there's a stand for it too, just not shown. Most LCD/Plasmas look better wall mounted anyway.
And all this time, HDTV manufacturers are aiming to build the thinnest TV. Maybe this company missed the memo.
I think the idea is good. It's just too expensive, probably a byproduct of the by hand final assembly. I can even understand the thougt process:
1. So lots of stuff can act as media extdender/DLNA/UPnP extenders. Let's just put that in the tv box to begin with.
2. This is probably not going to be in the same room, or even nearby the server. Let's add WiFi.
3. Well if someone has WiFi they probably have internet on it. Lets add a webb browser.
4. At this point if we just cram in bit of storage and an optical drive we could call it a PC.
I don't think it's quite ready, but it's a good idea. It helps the push to make the computer/internet as ubiquitous as electricity.
yeah, and what happened to that cheap projector that they used to make/sell? Strange company this!
this is a sweet idea, but too expensive. i would love to have everything in one box, my computer my tv my internet, and have it all look as sleak as that does. unfortunately thats too expensive, by about 1.5 grand
Question 42, the meaning of life, is Television?
...
And there is still the german company altera-media.de, which does similar but with a built-in Mac mini. So you can have Leopard roaring at you!
The website unfortunately is still a work in progress, but I was able to see one of those babies in real life - not near as clumsy as this Q42.
