Here's a creepy way to advertise a hair salon: stick the lower half of some guys face at the bottom of an escalator, and place various hairstyles on the stairs. As the escalator moves, said guy gets a new haircut with every stair that passes by. Creative? Yes, definitely. Unsettling? Oh, hell yes. It's at a mall in Mumbai, so it's not like I'm going to be forced to see it anytime soon, but if there's anything America likes it's slapping advertisements on every surface available, so don't be surprised if you start seeing crap like this in malls and airports in the near future. Check out a shot of the full escalator with all its haircuts after the jump.

well at least its thinking unique
I think this is cool.
@bandit:
ditto, thats pretty awesome
Creepy guy, neat concept.
I'm not really seeing why it's creepy.
Great, let's just encourage people to stand on the damn things now...
sorry for the poor chap who is looking down at the ad and missed the end of the escalator and falls down on thier face!
Nice art piece concept.
Give alienated people in transit yet another excuse to stare down at their feet rather than the other people and world around them.
Duck duck duck duck...MOUSSE!
@EU_dig: creepy guy, crapy concept.
But how long before the dirty shoes of thousands of shoppers totally obscures that guy's face/hair..?
@smitty1123: In some supermarkets, they have advertisements stuck to the floor and it is difficult for me to naturally walk across them because it feels like someone dropped something there and you shouldn't be walking on it...
@Jones Foyer: lol i hear that. I actually feel bad walking over advertisments because i feel like im disturbing something
clever idea... plus you get to step on the douche bag's face.
Nice idea.. but I'd think that it wouldn't look nearly so good in motion, as you'd just have a few milliseconds where the haircut and the guy actually lined up in any kind of sensible fashion.. the rest of the time it'd look rather freakish
This would work great for my warehouse sized xxx shop.
The escalators have always cried use me as advertising space.
Featuring a new adult star every so often on the base and top. The moving steps... well I'll leave that to your imaginations.
thats awesome!
@Jones Foyer: I meant standing on the escalator, not the ads. I've never understood why people walk up to a moving staircase, get on it and then just freaking stop. I damn near have a coronary just thinking about it...
I think its very nicely done...i dont see why its labelled as crap,yet the silly ads at urinals would amuse you...
haha i think that's awesome!
Cool idea - better than 99% of the bland marketing out there...
@nikeplr: You know me so well! Urinal ads are the best!!!!!
yes, that cool especially if you really hate the product/model/ad just step on it and curse!
and that should give you pleasure
This is a pretty half-brained scheme.
@strider_mt2k: At least you're not one of those duck, duck, grey duck people.
@Obtusegoose:
That would be the ONLY good thing about it.
@smitty1123: Meh, sometimes you're in a hurry for whatever reason. I'll walk up the escalator if the way's clear and I have some place to be. Why not? Of course, if there are people in the way, I'll just wait patiently.
If this is really giving you a coronary, I think you really should just relax and not worry about what other people are doing.
@HeartBurnKid: Oops, sorry smitty, misread you. Still, that last part definitely applies. Just relax, and don't have an aneurysm; some people aren't in any big hurry, so they're fine with just waiting until they get to the top.
I can see this appearing very soon on the subway escalator of Grand Central Terminal. Ugh!
@firefoxx66: yeah that's what I was thinking and I think its why Adam called it creepy - maybe it was so creepy he couldn't even show us video for fear of freaking out giz readers?
Creepy, but it's also really cool and unique. But hey, as long as it's not a bunch of fast food ads...
...actually, stepping all over McDonalds would be a good thing, right?

Pretty neat! Anybody know who did this and specifically where?? Bit of Googling has revealed this US/Japan-based company doing this type of advertising around the world: [aaprails.com]
@iambeefy: omg that's creepy (the constant change in video speed that is). Why can't they just keep it constant
would work better on the up escalator, so you can see the hair popping out of his bisected head.
That's the biggest escalator I've ever seen!
Oh I get it, the people to the right are down one floor. Thhbbtt!
Escalpelator...
....Way too much ineffective attention in a dangerous area.....
Ads shouldn't be catching attention in areas like that...it's unique(not good) but way too dangerous.
The head matches the guys face for less than a second depending on how fast the escalator is while it takes 2 seconds to slide over each one. Chances of anyone seeing the face completely matched with the head is near nil unless there's nobody around and you just stare at it like a dork.
I think it's alright to have ads AROUND the escalator because people actually have a chance to look at it.
This DHL ad from Hong Kong is a good example

Wow Adam, leave your house once in a while, these have been all over the place for years for printers, cars, cameras, pretty much anything they can figure out.
It doesn't really look like he had different haircuts - more like one haircut with very much hair mousse styled differently in every picture. What does that tell about the hair dresser?
Ok great but why use such a douche bag face for the ad, put him on a punching bag.
Sweet love of goodness? Is there anywhere they won't stick advertising?
