Here's a video of a new band that uses iPhones and a Nintendo DS to play their music. Unluckily, they call themselves iBand. Luckily, they are not as bad as the name. And in any case, they show the great possibilities for having fun creating music with these devices. Giz fan Seb, one of the players, tells us how:
Since Electroplankton on the Nintendo DS we constantly think about implementing those sounds, and since the iPhone we like to play with PocketGuitar. Now that iAno came out we just had to try this out! As you said in your article: there has to be an iPhone band! It's the next step. And as we're devoted Giz readers we thought we'd give it a shot and sat down to improvise a little and pressed record on that digital camera.Unfortunately we only have two iPhones, so we dug out that dusty Nintendo DS. But we want to take it further. There are some guys with iPod touches in our neighbourhood, so we'll gather them and add a drumset with the BeatPhone app and a guitar and lose the DS. So you can expect another song in the next weeks.
[Thanks, Sebastian]

I wish I had that in my garage band days in high school.
thats awesome at my school you could probably do an orchestra size band with iphones and touches
Great idea. Awful sound.
Anti-climax of the month.
@C: You suck.
Great work guys, keep the chart topping goodness coming!
funny awesome
What the hell is wrong with that?
That was clever and didn't sound bad at all!
C, you get a C- for being a shit.
I thought it was cool.
thats very cool
they should definetly expand
The guy with electroplankton doesn't have too much work to do.
The guy on the right sounded out of place and off rhythm, and while the piano and the DS... whatever it is, were together for most part, the guy on the right made it not seem so a large chunk of the time. The idea's awesome, though...
people with way too much free time_
Keep the DS. I want that program. Even if it's just a third of the band and I don't have any iPhones.
I give that an "I've seen better." Kind of like when people released music they'd played on their Game Boy. It was cool at first, cause it's on a non-instrument and it sounds all different, but then at the end you realize the music freaking sucks.
This sounds like some shitty emo instrumental song. I'm sorry I guess. I don't think it's cool cause it's being played on a freaking iPhone/DS. I guess I'm with C.
the iAno sounds like the iTouchscreen has lots of iLag that makes it iUnsuitable for playing the iAno in rhythm with other iNerds
I would love to see the same idea in the hands of more talented electronic musicians... ElectroPlankton has a much greater potential... and I could definitely see a DS with Jam Sessions being used for rhythm guitar
i gve them props
not that great. play zelda theme for max points.
I like it
Fascinating.
There is much better ways of using the DS to make music then electroplankton, but they all require some sort of computer/audio program to interface Midi with. I personally like the fake Monome program that I got on mine. One day I'll own a real Monome.
they should use Warioware: Twisted!
Guitar, piano, violin, maracas, carrot grater, wet dog...
I wonder if someday our children's children will have no idea what the original instruments that made these sounds look like.
Instead of using electroplankton on the DS, couldn't they just use the Jam Sessions game. From what I have seen, if you use it properly, it could be a good substitute for a guitar.
MORE COWBELL!
Duh duh ching!
Nice work! Man, everyone's a critic, aren't they? Making music from non-musical instruments is cool, regardless of perfect timing or not. Props to you guys.
Besides the whole compsition, the guitar riff puts you in a trance.
@Haroon Malik & STRIDER_MT2K: I like to keep my comments short. I'm not being nearly as harsh as you might think, so give me a break. The members were out of time, and they need to work on it before claiming the title of 'iBand'. I stand by it being a good idea, but no deal. There's really no need to get defensive about it, k.
