Smart Target's Kiddo Kidkeeper Proximity alarm helps bring peace of mind to the parents of adventurous children using a wearable wireless transmitter. When a child has wandered out of a pre-set range, the transmitter will trigger a visual and audible alarm on the parent's receiver, prompting them to reel the kid back in.
The device offers two range settings of 13 and 26 feet, it is waterproof, and it can monitor up to four kids at once—which is great until a hyperactive child decides to remove the device and hurl it into the woods for no good reason. There is no pricing information on the official site, but we did come across a Romanian site selling it for the equivalent of $170, which should be a decent indicator. Good for pimps, too.
A choke chain collar is more effective.
for hoes?
Hellz as much as I used to make fun of this crap. Now I have a 4 year old and 1 year old. This could give you a little peace of mind in a crowded place. And if I hear it going off with a kid screaming in toe its a free chance to dish out a beat down.
You could also attach this to your flash drive that holds all your snuff porn, that way "the Man" won't get it.
or your car keys, that would be wise also. Anything you often forget actually.
So, basically by the time it goes off the child is gone, and it's really just there to induce panic in you for being so irrisponsible as to 1) bring your child, 2) not physically hold on to your child, 3) think that this gadget is an acceptable replacement for 1 and 2...
Just get the kid the monkey backpack w/ the tail that acts as a leash and be done with it.
One of the things I can't stand is an unsupervised small child in a public place. My stepmom thought along the same lines and called out "Free Baby!" to get the parent to suddenly realize their kid was wandering out of range. If there's one thing I can say about her is that she was incapable of being embarassed if annoyed enough.
At first I thought the best place to embed one was in the sole of the kid's shoe, until I remembered that I cant get my 2 year old to keep his shoes on.
As the parent of a 3 year old (and an 11 year old who was once a 3 year old), I call this product useless. Toddlers and preschoolers do not "wander away." They RUN away the second the see an opening! Sensing freedom, they bolt for the nearest kid-size gap in the crowd (or shrubbery). I don't need a gadget to tell my my kid is zooming off; it's instantly plain to see.
Maybe parents with really, really slow kids could use this device.
@Skeptical_Geezer: or if you wanted to get really interesting, a shock collar.
Geez, how hard would it have been to embed a GPS chip in there, so you can zero in on the kid after they've run off?
Otherwise, yeah, seems pretty useless...
Get this, get the V-chip, implant a GPS tracking device.. pretty soon you don't have to be a parent at all.
i want one for my dog, but I need it with a shock collar, for real.....
A small backpack like device with a helium tank and a balloon on a Kevlar tether is the solution. When they get away, you hit the button, the balloon inflates, and you can know exactly where your kid is. And if they are near a ceiling fan, even better.
Maybe if the device could tell you which direction they are at, it might be of use.....but just a beep when past 13 feet is not enough.....
For fat kids this is perfect! They can walk away and you know when tubby is going to eat with out your permission!
@MykePagan: so true... so, so true... makes me wish i had one of them stun guns that the storm troopers had in star wars. "he's getting away, BLAST HIM!"
on this product, if i see a kid wearing it, i'm going to give him some free candy!
where is the alarm when a pedophile gets too close?
I KNOW where my kid is.
I DON'T know where the Pedo-bear is.
Its a very good device. When i pick up my kid he already knows that Kiddo is just for his safety and slhoud not be removed. In fact it helps, i'm happy with the product.
Wait 'til your child starts walking and conquering the world... Then you'll see why kiddo is so useful!
I have one, and I must say that I'm really glad with it... You can't be 100% focused all the time, and believe me you'll need to!
