It is 2008 folks. Controllers with wires are just plain unacceptable. If you are a Wii owner, that cord connecting the Wiimote and the nunchuck can be infuriating. As you have probably heard, Nyko has come up with a wireless adapter for existing nunchucks that promises to eliminate the problem—but the question is how well does it work?
Both IGN and Wii Fanboy have taken a look at the device and agree that it does its job well and the added bulk of the cord-free adapter doesn't really take away from the performance. So if you have a few controllers you would like to convert to wireless, the Cord Free is available now for $20. Nyko is also expected to release a standalone version this May. Uh...that's not the Wireless Nunchuck...that's the Cord-Free.
Wait, does this work ONLY for the Nunchuk, or can you use this with the Gamepad (classic controller) as well?
And why the hell can't we get a SW update to allow GC games to use the wireless controllers rather than the skanky GC wired controllers?
Surely if it has no wires then it is wireless?
@1stage: It's all about the Wavebird, man.
My only question would be is it as comfy to hold as the 1st party Nintendo one. Thats one of my biggest issues with 3rd party accessories. They never feel as good as 1st party. Aside from that they also arent as reliable and can sometimes damage your console.
Nyko is guilty of this. Their charge stations can kill wiimotes and the sixaxis.
Has anyone tried that wireless Gamecube controller at Wal-Mart? It's priced at $20.
It's pretty hard to find the Wavebirds. I have 2, but paid $30/each used for them! (Yeah, call me stupid, but it's worth it for wireless - at least for the first 2 since they are much more frequently used than controllers 3 & 4).
It's just as comfy because it's a conversion kit, it uses the same adapter as you have now. See in the photo the wire just plugs in and the transmitter is added to the factory unit to let it be wireless. It's nice to see a practical solution instead of making a new controller you'd have to get used to all over again.
Get some wrist weights and you're all set for a workout.
I find this to be kind of pointless personaly.
I mean is the wire from one hand to anther really that anoying?
We aren't talking about accorss the room or anything.
@Spyrojoe: If you can only find a WaveBird. Luckily I have one but I need two.
The cord between the Wiimote and Nunchuck never bothers me. Who was clamoring for this? More batteries to deal with? WTF?
@ShockTerminal: EXACTLY.
You need Gamecube wireless controllers? How about MadCatz...

I've never had a problem with the cord between the Nunchuck and WiiMote, except for maybe when I first pick it up to use it - must be some conspiracy because it ALWAYS has a knot in it. After that - no problems.
I don't understand why Nyko didn't just design the Nunchuck to be wireless. It doesn't seem like it would be much of a stretch to just built the wireless into the controller itself and it wouldn't look like a barbell. Also, I doubt if people would mind paying an extra $5 for a true wireless Nunchuck rather than this ugly-as-sing abomination.
@ AJ_Syrinx:
You can always find Wavebirds on fleaBay. However, they almost always sell for $30-35/each used. Even used they are a good buy.
@ MR OPTIMUS PRIME
The Wavebirds are much better than the MadCatz from all the reviews I've seen. I haven't seen any reviews on the wireless Wal-Mart controllers - I forget what brand they are and I don't see them in their online store.
@PigVenus - Read is difficult isn't it?
"So if you have a few controllers you would like to convert to wireless, the Cord Free is available now for $20. Nyko is also expected to release a standalone version this May. "
@PigVenus: $30-35? Nope. Wavebirds are going for over $50 each on ebay.

The real question is, why oh WHY did they use AAA in both this cord free version and the stand alone nunchuck.
Everyone already has rechargable AA's for their wiimotes.
*slaps forehead*
I personally have 9 GC controllers, including four wavebirds. I also have 4 bongo controllers so if anyone wants to get their bongo on, shoot me an email :D
Ummm, the nunchuck has now become two sticks. If you plan on buying these, how about giving me the cash instead because you obviously have money to burn. (WAVEBIRD ROCKS)
