This is not the first time a USB to DVI adapter had come down the pipeline, but the new Gefen adapter can drive an impressive 6 additional displays at 1600X1200 resolution. It is not great for larger monitors by any means, but at only $129 it could be a relatively inexpensive solution. Gefen also notes that it "uses little computer resources" which means that there is at least a chance that this thing won't be a huge processor suck. Additional images after the break.

Looks to me that it only supports one...
is it me or is it time for 5 screen hd porn?
Don't know about cheap, if you have the PCI slots it'd be cheaper to buy the same amount of graphics cards.
I'd be concerned about refresh rate. Can't find anything on their site about specs.
@TheCapt: Given the multi-Gb/s bandwidth of a dual link DVI and the max 480mb of USB 2.0 I am going to guess that at full res the refresh would have to be slow.
I just dont see USB having the bandwidth for HD video at high speed.
This is stupid..
As Arch, said..the bandwidth is LACKING for anything except maybe Solitaire. ANd I wouldnt touch 1600x?
I think people (like myself) with a MacBook Pro - and hence only one DVI output - could use to have a multi-monitor setup. I agree you wouldn't play games or watch video on those montiors, but you could do email/chat/documents on them just fine.
Eh... I'll stick with my PCI for now...
@ViperBorg:
cause thats what this is for
This would be a great solution for folks running multimedia displays at trade shows and stuff.
Rotating images of products or spec sheets and that kind of stuff shouldn't push it's capabilities too badly, and you end up with a single USB device to hook to a laptop instead of some big stupid desktop with multiple video cards!
Put your fantasies to rest.
@Polybius:
Yeah loooks like you need 6 of them to support 6 - making at an expensive $774 solution. :)

I need one of these for my MP3 jukebox that has USB, digital optical and RCA outs, but no DVI. I officially discovered this a day or two before I was to take it to a party, where I was planning to bring my 19" flatscreen monitor and desktop speakers to keep the whole rig upstairs instead of in the (finished) basement.
It ended up in the basement again.
