Hey, if you haven't heard I'm doing an informal reader meet up April 5th, at (I think) Alpine Meadows in Tahoe. The point will be to ski or snowboard, while testing out some gadgets in the real world. What's cool is that plenty of people are coming and that there'll be some fun gear to play with while we're there. And more and more cool gear is showing up at this shindig.
• Nokia is bringing a ton of N95s for us to use.
• Smith Optics will be bringing some of their new hot swappable goggles and fan driven turbo goggles to test out, along with a bluetooth helmet and I think lots and lots of headbands. (Slope style counts.)
• JBL is giving away headphones.
• VuDu is giving away a box!
• I'll have a Garmin Colorado preloaded with Ski trail maps. Overkill compared to a paper map, but potentially useful for off-piste adventures and worth checking out in person.
• Zune'll come along with a few loaners preloaded with Gizmodo approved snow shredding tracks.
• I'll have one loaner of the Vholdr outdoor camcorder.
• Nacski might be setting up a bus ride system from SF.
• Silverado Systems is going to bring a pair of RED One cams
• I'll bring a Dash GPS.
• No camera companies have stepped up to participate with batches of loaners of outdoor cams cough*olympuspentaxsanyo*cough, but I'll keep trying.
If you want to come, I will welcome you with open arms as you spray fresh spring slush in my face. It will definitely be T-shirt weather by then, even more so than now. If you work for a gear company with outdoor gear, let me know if you want to bring some to show off.

Alpine Meadows? Diamond peak(given i live 5 minutes away)/ north star/ squaw would of been better but Alpine is still a solid starters mountain.

Is it an actual "Meetup" up meeting or just a "meet up". I think Meetup.com might have some issues with your wording.
I do recommend Meetup.com, if you do want to get people to RSVP and such.
Sounds like fun. I hope the remainder of my flu disappears in time; and I have enough lung material left after this cough (it hates the lungs).

I'm taking next friday off just to be well rested. Also, I need 4 new friggin tires on the car. And i want time to head over to nevada to blow some money. This is going to rock as long as we aren't riding on slush.
I think if you ever attend a Gizmodo meetup, this should bestow upon the attendee a life-long ban hammer immunity.

@InclineVillage: Apparently you dont know where to go at alpine, because it beats the shit out of diamond peak. Yea squaw has better terrain, but its also more crowded and much more expensive. Northstar is garbage unless you're a park rat

Can't wait to host you at Alpine! You're the perfect excuse to be on the mountain (hey, SOMEONE has to show you the good spots on the mountian to gather footage, etc.!!). I definitely want to check out all the cool stuff you're bringing... it's gonna be fun!

I'm a little jealous, but I will be skiing in Breckenridge this weekend. When are you gonna show a little luv to your Colorado folks! The beach is beautiful this time of year at Arapahoe Basin!

I just got sick seeing that there are going to be RED One Cameras and that I won't be able to be there that day. Even though I live 40 minutes away. COME ON!

What would be a good date to do second meetup? April 5 will be good, but this converstion reads as if others need more notice. If anyone can start throwing out dates that work, we can start talking about them now. This year, this summer, next winter... whatever.
