Microsoft has just inked a deal with Peter Safran, the producer of amazing cinema masterpieces like Jiminy Glick in Lalawood, Meet the Spartans, and the all-time-classic RocketMan, to produce "original" shows for distribution via Xbox 360's Live service. Like his movies, the 10-minute-max shows will "initially" be scripted (or something like that,) and they will focus on the "horror" and "comedy" genres, "appealing to the Xbox 360 demographic." Apparently, Microsoft and Safran think that Xbox Live video users are retards with short attention span problems. [NYT]

Personally, I thought they were all kind of funny, except for Meet the Spartans.
But then again I am on Adderall. >.<
Rocketmans great!
I thought all of those movies were pretty funny... Guess somebody is a depressed little journalist :(
"Apparently, Microsoft and Safran think that Xbox Live video users are retards with short attention span problems. "
... Think?
Har har har.... okay I know.. not that funny.
I know quite a few "retards with short attention span problems" that play 360. I'm not one of them but I do have a 360.
Those movies are horrible. Thats a joke of a list.
Scary Movie was funny. But then again, I am from an Urban neighborhood where everybody was like, "Oh shit, a Wayans Bros Movie." The rest... I can't say. Producers just fund and influence. Directors destroy with horrible plots and misguided acting. *Cough* Uwe Boll *Cough*
@einstoch: How does taking meth make some of these movies funny? B/C I don't care how many Adderalls I took, Jimminy Glick will never be funny. And except for 3 and 4, the first two Scary Movies were "meh".
I LOVED Rocketman.
most of that humor wears off at around 14 years of age, but c'mon, everyone loves rocketman!
@Git Em SteveDave: Umm.... Adderall isn't methamphetamine. The two active ingredients are dextroamphetamine and racemic d/l amphetamine salts. However, in extreme cases, doctors can prescribe methamphetamine. However, as one would imagine, the circumstances must be very severe, and the control over the drugs is very tight. Also, Haroon wasn't referring to taking the drugs in order to enjoy the movies. It was all about attention span. Think before you clack the keys, if you don't mind.
I don't play the 360 and I'm not a gamer at all, in fact, so I've got a great attention span. What were we talking about again? Oh look, a dog with a puffy tail!
'Jiminy Glick on LaLaWood' is very funny. The rest are pretty much cr*p.
@einstoch: Ironically, I used to be on Adderall (several years ago), and "Meet the Spartans" is the only one of those I would even consider watching -- and it would still take a great deal of convincing to get me to watch that one.
@SonOfMagicFact: As a person who takes Adderall, please explain how short my attention span has to be to enjoy Jiminy Glick.
These movies, and their supporters are all sucking the teets of the FAILbeast.
The Wayans Bros. deserve to be tossed into a vat of acid for making Scary Movie, and for inspiring the string of shit that followed it, on top of totally ripping off Bugs Bunny to make that horrendous Little Man.
comment "Worst-Movies-Ever Producer to Create Exclusive Xbox Live Shows" Michael Moore is working for Microsoft?
Oh, c'mon Giz, aren't you being just a bit harsh on this poor Peter Safran? I mean, I looked him up on IMDB, and he has also produced Connie and Carla and My Baby's Daddy and, uh, Senseless and, umm, let's see, there's also Are You Comfortable? and...oh, never mind.
Carry on with the lambasting.
Oh give me a break, as pathetic as it was rocket man was F#ucking hilarious! I will buy it on blu-ray. Meet the Spartans was also worth a few tears and drops of piss I was laughing so hard. Scary movie, meh laughed a few times and Jiminy Glick dear lord I have no idea what to say about that, never seen it hope I never will, I am already upset at the fact I know the name let alone the fact that it exists. But Rocket Man thumbs up, it still makes me laugh... enough to drop a few golden droplets.
The 1st scary movie was great! After that they all sucked
The only time Harland Williams has ever been funny was in Superstar, and that's because he had to keep his mouth shut for 80% of the film. I cringed at the listed films and shed a tear at the notion of them being labeled as comedy: oh Monty Python, how we need a contemporary version of thee amongst us ever so desperately...
This should tell you something about the "XBOX360 demographic". I've noticed a very similar trend in my time behind the counter at the video store. They're the same ones who repeatedly laugh at the movie "Drift" [imdb.com] and then place it somewhere obvious in the store.
Rocketman is an awesome movie! Scary movie 1 was pretty good, but it kept getting old with the newer ones. I never saw the other 2 movies, but I know meet the spartans probably sucked, these type of "Make-fun of other movies" movies are getting old and annoying. I have no idea what that first movie is though.
Oh, and Xbox live video marketplace users aren't retarded people that laugh at stupid jokes in movies or appreciate movies like that. Maybe some of them, but you can't say that the whole entire user base is like that. I am a user of the video marketplace, and I'm not like that.
John Mayer here...
I wish for once the giant corporations would show us some respect. Or at least send me a custom JM 360.
@Sam_Zebian: You need to rent Reading and Comprehension 101.
At first I agreed with the post, but after reading the number of people who posted comments saying how awesome they thought all of these movies were, I think Microsoft's marketing sense has trumped mine yet again.
and here i thought "meet the spartans" would be the end of all this crap...oh well..
probably because most of them are retards. not all, but i do play with a lot when im online.
It wasn't me.
@Jesus Diaz: hahahaha
@Metkis: No, not funny, very sad actually, but it is true.
Boardgames, books, imagination, and analog (face to face) interaction are all dying for the mind numbing eye candy that is (xbox) console gaming. I see an amazing number of people going camping, etc who "must" be able to power their console from their car or their "out door" experience is highly compromised. If you know someone who would be devastated and completely lost if their mom/wife/girlfriend/mom grounded them from their console, then this article refers to them.
That reminds me... I need to find the box I buried my ps2 in, If I can remember how to make it work. I think I will play it after my (analog) D&D game.
Guantanamo's ultimate torture devices.
Rocketman was one of the best comedy's ever made.....
IT WASN'T ME!
Meet The Spartans: WORST MOVIE EVER.
EVER!
"Apparently, Microsoft and Safran think that Xbox Live video users are retards with short attention span problems" sounds about right, hence the Xbox.
Some producers specialize in producing films on the cheap - most famous example being Roger Corman. They probably chose Safran because of his understanding of how to work with the size budget they had in mind, NOT because they think his films were great works of art. As much as I despise Microsoft, I HAVE to acknowledge that they have a solid track record when it comes to evaluating business decisions (in other words " How do you argue with success?")
Just so long as Uwe Boll isn't involved I think I'll live.
The Windows Media Center beta of their internet TV is actually pretty cool. Actually with every episode of Arrested Development for free, it's pretty awesome.
I mean, how hard could they screw up Xbox Live shows? The worst that'll happen is that people don't watch 'em. ...and people didn't buy the Xbox just to use that function.
@ Git Em SteveDave
all sonofmagic is trying to say is that it makes you look like a retard when you make a claim like 'what does taking meth have to do with it'. Adderall is not meth. It is made using amphetamine salts. And I have done plenty of adderall, and it is a really stupid drug. makes you feel cracked out and restless, I'd rather just take a fat line of coke.
@Rizzuh: That's -- somewhat -- what I'm trying to say. Minus the taking illegal drugs part. I really enjoyed Jiminy Glick when it was on Comedy Central. I found Martin Short's character to be very witty, and very well written. That being said, I'd never see the movie. Unless I was paid. Are the producers listening?
