This video shows the guts and construction process of the Dreamlifter. Used to transport the composite fuselage and immense wings of the 787 Dreamliner, Boeing built this beast in the USA because they couldn't find an aircraft to ferry these parts cheaply and on time through the world. Only four Dreamlifters have been made from passenger 747s, holding three times the volume of a 747 freighter. And as opposed to other cargo planes, like the Antonov, it looks so good inside that I would like to go live in there. Or set up a cocktail bar. Or both.

WOW
This just demonstrates the tight schedule that Boeing has signed up for. Airlifting large parts rather than shipping.
I don't know, planes making planes . . . it's like robots making other robots. ugh.
What i wouldn't give to go zero G in that space....
You should see the plane they use to transport the Dreamlifter!!!
See, AirBus, THAT's how you build an airframe transport plane that doesn't look like it's hydrocephalic:
Both of these guys still fear the Antonov AN-225 Mriya. That thing is bad-ass.
Man, you could fit Steve Jobs' head in that thing.
BTW, original 747 plane was built in the US. All the modifications took place in Taiwan. Still, one crazy looking plane.
Better strategy than Airbus'... which is to leave customers hanging for years.
It's amazing what humans can accomplish when there is immediate financial incentive.
We'd probably have space colonies and interstellar travel now if there were money in it for someone.
@macserv:
If they're so smart, why don't they know how to spell industry?
There's something just unnerving about a BIG ASS PLANE with a HINGED TAIL SECTION...
Fedex could probably make good use of this level of cargo transport!
@macserv: It looks like a depressed penguin.
The Dreamlifter modifications were not made in the United States, by the way.
somehow even with all that space Im certain that by the time the airlines get done butchering it I will still be left with 6" of leg room in some crappy seat thats 10" wide with 15 degrees of reclinability
despite all that room Im sure by the time the airlines get done with it Ill have 6" of leg room in some 10" wide 'seat' with at most 15 degrees of reclinability.
@djohnson60618: Money talks. I'm sure you wouldn't mind going to your boss and telling him you'll work for free, right? But you're right about what we could accomplish if we only could make a profit out of it. I once heard of this group of guys that created a process that could recycle old tires for their raw materials with basically 100% recovery and zero pollution. Problem was, that for every dollar spent to recycle the tires, they could only get 1 dollar back. So tire fields continue to grow and grow. The problem with mankind is primarily that no matter what, we tend to want more and more rather than be happy with what we have. Even the uber rich people who shouldn't want for more usually still do.
@impliedsurprise: Probably a couple of broken bones and concussions? Although it does sound like fun, it may prove to be somewhat painful :P
@impliedsurprise: My thoughts exactly!
Add 3 dj's, walls of speakers and a sponsorship from Belvedere and you've got the best new years party EVER. And I call it "My Themed Pirates of the Caribbean Party...in the air" [gizmodo.com]
so the pilot sits in the nut sack?
@se7a7n7: It's français, not english.

@schrosa: Uhm, they are shipping. The parts are too big for any other method of transport between the points they need.
And while you could use this to transport massive amouts of cargo, the plane is designed to transport a large VOLUME of cargo, not WEIGHT. So you could load it with 500,000lbs of lead, and take up 1/3 of the space, or 500,000lbs of styrofoam, and take it all up.
@SchruteBuck: are you sure about that one??...
im a pilot at boeing field in seattle... for the last year ive been watching these things do their flight tests and pilot training.... they are LOUD! and they make quite a wake turbulence
Tell me that thing doesn't look like a baboon.
An uncircumcised airplane!
Meanwhile the Coalition For Baleen Whales Association is pressing for copyright infringement for "similar" look to their species...
@ se7a7n7:
by the way industrie is the german word for industry. maybe cos airbus is also having plants in germany they printed industrie on it. or they're idiots
@macserv: that thing has downs-syndrome!
I see these things flying into and out of Boeing Field. They fly lower than my office downtown at times (54th floor) and they look awesome. Their silhouette is unmistakable from miles away. When they actually get to Boeing field, traffic along I5 crawls while everyone watches it touchdown.
Man, here I thought Boeing was some state-of-the-art aircraft designer, but all they're doing is ordering airplane kits from China and snapping them together like LEGOs. What a racket! No wonder they lost that Air Force contract to Airbus.
Ukaraine's plain still kicks Boeing and Airbus's asses!

Ukraine's plains still kick Boeng's and Airbus's asses:

The Dreamlifter was made in Argentina or something to transport parts from Japan. Going through all that trouble to avoid Americans, they should build a spaceship to get water from Mars.
It's look like a pregnant 747.
I...(glance)....am...(glance)....not....reading off of (glance)....a cue card!
-Boeing Executive
Maybe now yo momma can finally ride a plane.
Ohhhh that joke has been simmering since middle school. Not to mention the millions of dollars that went into making it possible. High five anyone? How about just an "ohh snap"...
Pregnant Guppy!

...
So...they are marketing and branding the planes they're using to build Dreamliners. It's a freaking 747 with a big ass hinge on its tail.
And a big ass bulge from front to back.
Finally, something that can carry my 150" TV up here for me.
Forgive me. I'm a little older than most of you.
I thought the little orange pills I ate in the 60s were dream lifters. They worked for me.
@SchruteBuck: yea but there wouldn't be any room left for his ego. and you know he needs that....
@alexz:
I thought the Ukraine was mostly mountainous
@alexz: The Ukraine is not weak!
