We've seen awesome Tesla coil art many times before, and the latest addition to the catalog is no exception. With Christmas decorations, a vehicle anti-theft device and allied soldiers all getting the Tesla treatment, it was only a matter of time before the humble laptop entered into the realms of electrical greatness. These images are titled Hi Volt Antivirus and there are three different effects on display. Our particular favorite is the High Intensity Professional version, which is pictured above. Check out the Original and Lite effects, as well as the inactive electrode surface in the gallery below. Jump in to learn what got the magic going.
The electrode in the pic above was attached to a rotating apex, once turned on, the revolving surface was fed by an electricity supply, which gave rise to the effect above via a multiplier. Using various photography techniques, the images above were captured. Disconcertingly, the hot electrode was quite close to the user's face, maintaining a constant distance away by only a few centimeters. We have to ask; when will this madness stop? Electrocution is not cool. [Tesladownunder]

So, completely useless, and visible only with an extended shutter time?
Heh...why not?
IS this a joke?
Looks cool but please remind me of what the hell the point was. Preciate Ya.
If the point was just to look cool then I can dig it.
@tme2nsb: it is not a joke! we need things like these to protect (or hurt ourselves). i want a flame thrower on my laptop for unauthorized access.
This guy's having some trouble logging in it seems.
Speaking as a photographer, those photos would be much better if the screen wasn't on at all, or at least color coordinated with the lightning bolt tesla thingy.
I thought its photoshopped
heh.. first thing i thought about was Diablo.... talk about special fx! I wonder how much mana it cost'd him
Done right, this could be a great stock photo for, say, Symantec or some other PC security company. As is, the photograph doesn't go far enough though.
wow that looks pretty sick. I agree with Tommasta about that stock photo business...
I thought It was just a digital effect when I first saw it too
Ok, what the hell?
It seems pretty cool but has to face a lot of modernization in order to be accepted by users as an effective choice.
if it could transcribe an Apple logo around an Air - it might gain wider marketplace acceptance amongst the fanboys looking for a cool looking/ expensive virus killer.
AND it looks as though it can catch fire on its own - a double plus!!
Uh, what the..
I can see this as an anti-theft deterant - But how in the hell does this work as an anti-virus mechansim?
I don't think I'll contribute anything different/new here.
It is visually appealing but serves no real purpose other than that.
Plus, I don't think it's a good idea to have that much electricity so close to the machine... any little wrong move will definitely KILL the whole thing.
Wow, you people really need to get a sense of humor, or at the very least stop taking things so damned literally. You must be a TON of fun at parties! Oh, wait...
Ok people...READ the article. It says "Tesla coil ART" This is not intended to be a functional device. It's not a security measure. It's not a product being released into the marketplace. It's just a cool picture. Shut your face and enjoy...or don't.
Agreeing with FubarGuy...
