After three years of false starts, Fast Forever is on the road to reality.
Before the weekend, star and franchise producer Vin Diesel used Instagram to announce production had started, where “people are grinding and incredible crews are working.” Diesel’s always been the franchise’s public face, and that’s been even more true with Forever. From airing grievances with Universal to promising a release date, he’s been hyping up the movie when it seemed like it wouldn’t even happen without some potential creative and financial concessions made.
In his video, Diesel thanked the “best fans in the world” for being patient for news since Fast X premiered in 2023. “You’ve been patient to the industry and the studio, and you’ve been patient with me,” he said. “Over the past three-and-a-half years, we’ve been grinding to make the most amazing finale. […] Know that I hope to make you all proud.”
As of this past January, Fast Forever will see the return of franchise vets Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Dwayne Johnson, and Gal Gadot. There’s question marks over who else from the last movie will come back, including Sung Kang and Nathalie Emmanuel, who respectively play Han and Ramsey. (Those two were with Roman and Tej on the plane that crashed.) Likewise, it’s anyone’s guess over how, or if, this movie will bring back Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker), something Diesel promised back in 2025.
These questions will likely be answered by the time Fast Forever releases in theaters on March 17, 2028.
