The Fast and the Furious is all about family, and nowhere was that better represented than in Furious 7. When star Paul Walker died in a car accident, his two younger brothers, Cody and Caleb, helped a grieving production finish the film without him. And while star Vin Diesel has teased that Walker’s character will return in the 11th and final film, Fast Forever, Cody Walker says he won’t be a part of it.
“I would not be interested in doing that again,” Walker told EW. “I love the way his character exited the franchise. They didn’t kill him off, they didn’t do something cheesy like that. It’s beautiful, [Brian] is off raising his kids. But if they want to [bring him back], if Meadow would like to see that, they don’t need me or Caleb. AI was not a thing back in 2014, so they could do that. There’s years of footage that was never used from these other Fast films. They’re the best in the business, they can figure that out.”
Meadow is Paul’s daughter, who appeared in Fast X and helped promote the re-release of the original film with Diesel. “My stance is, it’s what Meadow wants to see done; it’s her father,” Walker said.
Though Paul Walker’s character, Brian, rode off into the sunset in the seventh film, he has been mentioned and referred to multiple times since. In fact, we even wrote about the weird phenomenon because the fact that this brash, rule-breaking hero has been relegated to the sidelines has been borderline insulting. But, for years, Diesel has insisted the character will come back in the final film, and this seems to add at least a tiny fly to that ointment.
Fast Forever is expected to bring back basically every other character from the Fast franchise and start shooting in December. It’s scheduled for release on March 17, 2028.
