In Sony's new "Foam City" ad, Miami becomes a soapy free-for-all when 120 million gallons of bubbles are unleashed in the streets. The world's largest foam machine was custom-built for the shoot, and pumped out over 500,000 gallons of foam per minute. The commercial is for Sony's cameras, and locals got Alpha DSLRs, Cyber-shots, and Handycams to shoot the experience. The amateur footage wasn't in the ad, but you will eventually be able to see it in an online gallery. While it follows the same urban pwnage theme of the Bravia ads—think clay bunnies and Superballs—we can't help but wonder, "Where's all the color?" See the making-of video after the jump. I was going to make a witty comment here, but I forgot it.
dude they make the coolest commercial ever
I like it how they include the locals and how they were just able to take over a few blocks and flood it with foam for a commercia
"Daddy, why are the clouds attacking us?"
"Because Son, God hates you."
Well, it looks like Miami's Mayor Manny Diaz made good on his campaign promise "to clean up this town"...
How environmentally responsible.
I knew it was in Miami, didn't get to see this though. @bosskev: Slowly but surely. It's not the dump it was back in the day.
It's Miami - where's the hot salsa dancing in the foam encased streets!
I hope so badly that they do it again in a city near me
thats so damn cool! I would have loved to be a part of that
One day i discovered such an event while inside my motorbathalicious, put too much m'poe in and soon it was sink high , dries fast also making it formidable , suddenly the urge to invite girls to bath with me on a photo-session hit me hard:
singing "in bathtub we could build a snowman
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown
He'll say: Are you married?
we'll say: No man
But you can do the job
when you're in town"
just yesterday i offered this to another lass.
I mean what a great advertisement for bathtub wonderland, and an opportunity to call girls in for something defiantly exiting.
"Daddy, why is a company like Sony making things look so squeaky clean?" "Irony son, irony."
@strider_mt2k:
"Clean your competitions mouth with soap." as a revenge for former Nintendo boss's Hiroshi Yamaushi statement to sony "suck my yellow balls"...
@Valicious: I can't imagine why you might have a problem with girls departing rebelliously.
Ah! So that's how Miami became the #1 cleanest city in America.
@bosskev: hari rebellious.
@Valicious: egg freckle?
@bosskev: an egg freckle wouldn't get bad for off-straying.
moderate your freckle.
altough truth is none yet joined to depart, partisan hackery i say.
DAMMIT SONY, bring something this awesome to HOUSTON.
PRETTY PLEASE!!! =D
KTHNXBAI.
What they didn't show were family members kissing each other goodbye before the deadly terrorist foam engulfed them with rich, silky smooth death.
I can't believe I didn't know that this was going on. I could've gotten free goodies, instead I wallow in my pity :o(
Sony should get the people who make their commercials to make their actual products.
@frigg: Nah, their commercials pretty much match the calibur of physical design in their products. Their core markets (TVs, cameras) are excellent products, too...if only they could distribute media without also distributing a dick up the consumers' ass.
This commercial on the other hand, was made full of win in my book.
+ Watch video
at my papa's computer store people were returning mag trinitron monitors for that funny(faint) horizontal line 2/5ths o' the screen from bottom.
We told them it holds the refresh rate and colors stronger. not a defect.
@Simpsons-Movie-ruled: when in the hell in houston would they shoot this. Please dont say downtown. THe METRORail would self destruct and traffic would come to a complete grind. THis is better suited to ACTUAL cool cities. God I miss New Orleans
@One2ManyCords: where. God this work computer sucks
@Valicious: "One day i discovered such an event while inside my motorbathalicious, put too much m'poe in and soon it was sink high , dries fast also making it formidable , suddenly the urge to invite girls to bath with me on a photo-session hit me hard:" Yeah. What?? Did you take a perfectly reasonable comment and run it through some english-to-something translator and back to english again?
@One2ManyCords:They could have filled the reliant stadium with bubbles, or even minute maid park. Then the roof would get retracted(is that the right word?)and all the bubbles would go flying away.
[*sigh*Yes its a shame that this city is so boring}
@Simpsons-Movie-ruled: Dont feel so bad i work 2 blocks from there and had no idea this was going on. God I hate my Job!!! lol
@Bueller: hit me hard.
@Simpsons-Movie-ruled: LOL right on to 610 or 59.. with traffic here....come on dude.. God I can picture it now... Can you imagine if Marvin Zindler were alive to do commentary on this.....LOL
One of the cooler commericals I have seen in a while. Along with the recent PS3 ads, Sony is really churning out some good stuff as of late...and yes, their roducts are getting back to their heritage as well -
I'd like to see them do THIS with Crysis.
God damnit xander I was gonna say that!
@Kj719: Nice default of the U! Where did you get it?
I hope they do something in Houston!
Not to sound negative cuz this looks pretty damned fun, but I hope it was eco-friendly soap and biodegradable.
They should have Gloria Estefan bust out of the foam.
@Glamdering:
I live in Miami and that area needed a bath LOL...and those people all probably sold their cameras to pay their bills.
@N@tedog: What are the chances that it ain't?
@Simpsons-Movie-ruled: That was definitely tops.
@Uber_lompocus: You know, I thought someone would have already said it.
Just add some techno and some flashing lights and you got yourself the biggest rave of all time!
I tried to think of the most harmless thing. Something I loved from my childhood. Something that could never ever possibly destroy us... Mr. Stay Puft!
Nice thinkin', Ray.
yiiihay this is very bad for the enviroment, but hey, it's a tv ad man!!!!!i mean that justifies it...
