The folks at LG must be running out of ideas because they are once again tapping the general public for new designs. Earlier this month, they launched a touchscreen UI contest, but now they have moved on to hardware with the Innovation Challenge. The goal: design your dream phone. The payoff: LG will manufacture your phone (one of which you get to keep), pay you $10,000 and adorn your pad with a LG 52" LCD TV and a HD-DVD (whaa?) or a Blu-ray player. Better hurry though, the contest ends on 4/30. [LG Innovation Challenge]

The do our work for us contest? Sounds like quite the scam.
Sweet! I mail LG an iPhone, and I get back an iPhone AND $10,000!
@thechansen: I am with you, but free stuff and your own designed phone!!
@thechansen
Yea, no kidding. I can see how the prizes for this contest could be equivalent to the hundreds of thousands of dollars in residual royalties from your own patent....NOT!
They don't send you the phone that you submitted to the design contest, they send you an LG phone worth about $200, basically you submit the design and they send you back some low-end phone that you could probably get for free with a 2 year contract somewhere...
But apple already designed my dream phone... :(
@Evangelion:
is that so? what about 3g? i know 3g is coming but the iphone can not be a dream phone to some at this point in time.
@Evangelion:
...then it's time to wake up -_-
I think this is pretty cool that the company is trying to get the public involved with their devices. Even though it is nothing more than clever marketing, it made me think about LG in a positive light -
(that's what they want me to say, isn't it? Damn.)
It should have bubble domes! And all the ringtones are La Cucaracha! And by default come in "Homer Green!" (custom skins sold separately).
@Totalfixation: @newtype2011:
lol! Can't you guys enjoy a little sarcasm? Now I know which kids not to pick on... I guess its time to wake up huh -_-
With that said, Im intersted to see some of the designs of these phones. :)
@Evangelion: iPhone come June + 3G and your statement is correct.
The Nokia N95 is MUCH closer to my dream phone than the iPhone.
@thechansen: lol I know huh?
this open to canadians?
Now they can award one person only and keep the rest of the few hundred designs to themselves.
I'm going to create a black rectangle in not Photoshop, not Illustrator, but MacPaint 1.0 and submit the design. I bet the winning phone will look like it.
@Totalfixation:
*facepalm* well then, keep dreaming.....
It has a button for call, and a button to end the call, and an LCD screen to show who's calling.
That's. it.
A phone that's a phone, Innovation of the year.
Can I get my 1/4 of a phone now?
Really, I don't need a camera/internet/thermometer on my phone, because it's a fucking phone.
If I need a camera, I use my camera, if I need internet I use the PC, if I need a thermometer, I'll get my goddamn infrared Thermometer. I don't need all that extra fancy stuff on it, all that does is waste the accumulator.
You miss the part where you want to rent xxx movie, you get a hooker. We got it!
My perfect phone:
Look at everything the iPhone does, add high speed internet and GPS and you're done.
@Heman: Oh god, I forgot that one.
All I know is I've never owned an LG phone that sucked, the same cannot be said for Motorola, Samsung, Sony Erricson, or Nokia.
The LG contest is using asp upload, and their registration expired, so entries are being denied!
