Casio Futurist Watch Would Get Goldfinger All Excited

The Futurist golden watch certainly seems to be going along with the retro design trend Casio's been exploring recently. The LA-2002G wouldn't look out of place on the wrist of any Bond villain of yesteryear, we think. Inside that matte gold case it's not exactly brimming with features, but it does have a stopwatch, timer, 29 time-zone clock and up to five independent daily alarms. Originally only available in Japan, TokyoFlash is making it available here for $149. Cackling and saying "At last we meet, Meester Bond!" as you strap it on is up to you. [TokyoFlash via Technabob]

I love watches (and will always wear one) and like the retro trend lately, but I am not feeling the love for this one. Looks like they made it JUST to have something retro looking and didnt bother cramming it with tech toys that make retro so much fun.
For the folks who already invested the $149 though, "But on YOU that looks really good".

  • I don't care for watches - I rarely ever wear one (what's the point?) but if I ever did buy one, I know that Nixon has style far supreme to anything Casio puts out.

  • Not excited about it, it's really not all that attractive.

As for my personal watch tastes, I prefer a classy looking watch that is not filled with a million and one things and prefer not to have any corny tech toys that I'll NEVER use.

  • I love...GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLD.

Can I paint his yoo-hoo gold now? It's kind of my thing, you know...

Yesh, salty. Yesh that was good.

  • Watches are a throwback to times of yesteryear.

I have a cellphone that has a clock that is updated by the towers--that is as accurate as I need it, while doing another vital function: Providing communications.

  • @dragonphyre: Watches aren't a necessity, but they are very fashionable and, with the right time piece, make you look like a very classy person. No cell phone can do that, the most they do is make you look like a tool who is grasping for attention.

  • This watch reminds me of the old school Omega LED watches....

Would love to get my hands on one of those for a reasonable price....

  • @Curves: Ya. I agree with your assessment of this watch. The 1 thing I do like about it is the face of it though. The pale gray with white digital display is rather hot. Drop the cheesy Tremclad gold paint, the boxy main body replacing it with something a bit more roundish and you'd have me for this watch really.

  • @GOKOR: different people have different needs - I need a watch, a phone will never suffice in it's stead.
And that's nothing to do with appearance, merely convenience and familiarity.

@dragonphyre: I love my watches and not planning on giving them up. I also like to occasionaly be able to put the phone down, and walk away from it, a free woman, UNavailable to the world for a while.
I also kinda feel sorry for people who whip out their cells and look at them when they are not ringing. Like yelling to the world, "I am a loser, no one calls me - so I am staring at the phone until they do".
    So sad.

@Curves: You know, the phone does have an off button.

The phone exists for your convenience; you do not exist for the phone's convenience.

Moreover, every time you reflexively answer the phone, you tell the world that you are at their beck and call.

There is a reason you have voicemail and it is not a sin to just not answer the phone. Freedom is within your grasp.

  • @OMG! Ponies!: I think you managed to miss the point somewhat...
