That point actually has some depth to it and reminds me of an excellent lesson that Jay-Z taught Macy's - white people aren't the only ones with money nor are they the only ones who like to spend their money.

Jay-Z worked out a deal with Macy's to start selling Rocawear. There was initial resistance to it, with some people asking what it would do for the store's image and the notion of the store's typical shopper. Of course, if you think about that point too much, you realized that it's just racism with a thin coating of "tradition". Macy's started selling Rocawear and, in doing so, expanded its customer base.

People with long nails shouldn't use the iPhone. Okay. Let's alienate the Puerto Rican billing clerk in my old office, my former Chinese colleague (she's a lawyer, but feel free to call her a whore - perhaps in front of the judge for whom she works), and any number of other women of color in New York who are neither bimbos nor whores.

my wife and sister both have long finger nails (real ones not acrylics) and neither have a problem with the iphone. she reminds me of paris hilton, a pig-ignorant, inexplicably famous, sort of looks hot for the first five seconds, then you start to notice she's all make-up.

Further, as someone who has spent the last 15 years living in 3 of the 5 boroughs of New York City, using the A, B, C, E, F, N, R, Q, W, 2, 3, 4, and 5 lines as part of my various daily commutes to and from home, not including PATH which I take to my job in Newark, the vast majority of women whom I have seen on mass transit with nails of that length tend to be "minorities". Moreover, they take pride in those nails and many men find them (both the women and the nails) attractive.

Last time I checked, money spends the same no matter who is spending it. Telling customers to change their behavior because it doesn't conform to your image of who your customer should be is, at the end of the day, elitist and very often vaguely racist. If you do research on the recent histories of aspirational luxury brands, you'll find a recurring undercurrent from long-time customers about how the changing demographic has cheapened the brand.

Apple's diehard supporters are some of the more recent and infamous complainers about how the great unwashed masses now are buying their product and diluting the product's luxury status.
