It's April 29, and Microsoft has to make the unfortunate decision of delaying Windows XP SP3 due to compatibility issues between it and Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System, something none of you should be familiar with unless you work in retail. If you don't, the service pack has been unofficially available for a couple days now and you can go ahead and install it, but the final final version won't be ready for a little bit. [PCMag]

Take that, stupid ecosystem!
@Hiphopopotamus: But I thought it rocked!
Oh well, we can wait another 5 years.
I seriously got a little pit in my stomach there for a sec when you said "Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System" because 1) I didn't know what it was, and 2) I thought it was some new form of DRM or copyright protection I was going to have to combat.
Aww man.
My attempt at putting Hardy Heron on my secondary computer has been unsuccessful, so XP nneds to keep jammin'! :|
Wow, color me surprised, they've delayed it again and on the day it was suppose to come out as well! Smashing Microsoft, just smashing!
Service Pack 3 prevents the installation of Nero :(
Funny it was out this morning. I have spent the whole day slipstreaming it and configuring a new sysprep image for our work machines. Since we're not in the retail business, I'm sticking with it. Risky? yeah. Care? not much.
Well considering the enterprise version has been out for a while now....
btw I installed enterprise last week and doing great - faster bootup (may just be my imagination), and the os is (definitely) generally more stable and responsive.
Can someone let me know if XP3 is as secure as Vista?. That's pretty much the only reason I would install it for a dual-boot at this point.
And a good thing. We do have Dyanmics deployed for our retail shops.
like who usually updates things from MS right out of the gate anyway. I used to wait like 6 months minimum before doing a service pack update just to see all the bugs get worked out.
Didn't the last "speed increase" for Vista actually make it slower? Just saying I'm not going to count on that alleged speed increase.
Delay XP updates to speed Vista sales. Thats the mantra at Microsoft.
Those other ones are legitimate Microsoft releases right and not something those sites conjured up? How did they get it so early? Sorry if I'm a little suspicious of them, I wanted to do the update for the 'parents computer, hoping it would run smoother. Plus I have this thing where I just like the products getting updates. I know, it's strange.
This is too funny. I just downloaded this from a microsoft.com site yesterday!
