The Nightmare Fog Machine

These ghostly jellyfish won’t sting you—they’re just high-tech smoke signals, created by a new installation that uses pulsing speakers to send fog through openings in huge slabs of concrete. But the puffs are considerably less frightening in motion:

See! Those adorable little guys look less like smoke jellyfish and more like smoke butterflies. The creatures come courtesy of “For Those Who Can See,” an industrial design project by a student at Berlin’s University of Art.

The finished piece will make its debut next week at DMY Berlin, a huge international design festival, though it’s unclear if it will be in creepy or cute mode. [Fast Company]
