Did you know that 99% of the internet traffic flowing between countries travels through underwater cables. And now we have a fairly comprehensive map of these pipes, available for free on the internet.

This map data was compiled by Greg Mahlknecht using resources he found on the internet. It shows the major pipes flowing from Europe to North America and those from Asia to Australia and Africa. The map is a work in progress and Mahlknecht is asking for help to improve the detail and accuracy of this underwater map.

Take a few minutes from your busy day to check it out. It’s always interesting to see where the big pipes travel, especially those string across long distances like the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean. [Cable Map via TechCentral]
