You'd think the head of a gigantic company that makes money from technology and TV would know what AirPlay is, right? Or how an Apple TV works? One or the other? No? Enjoy today's edition of Oblivious Rich White Guy.
Glenn A. Britt, quasi-monopolist and "enthusiastic Apple customer" confessed his frustration with cable TV to the NYT:
"Today we want to be on every screen. Today it's a little bit clunky to get programming from the Internet onto the TV - not so hard to get it on your iPad. What's hard is the plumbing, what wires do you connect, what device do you use."
Glenn! It's not so hard. AirPlay makes it super easy to take video (or music!) and pump it to your TV. Why don't you guys start sticking that in all of your cable boxes? That'd be pretty awesome, right?
"I'm not sure I know what AirPlay is," Britt stated.
OK. What about an initiative to make it really easy to send Time Warner on demand movies and shows from, say, an iPad to an Apple TV? You already said it's easy to get on an iPad, right?
"The current Apple TV, the little thing, the hockey puck, really doesn't do anything to help enable you to get Internet material on your TV."
Glenn. Ugh. That is the opposite of the way things are. If you're ever frustrated with the way cable TV functions in the world, and wonder why we can't have the simplest nice things that seem so obvious and would be so convenient, it's because fellers like Glenn Britt run companies like Time Warner Cable.
