You can already pay with Square when you buy a Pumpkin Spice Latte™. Great. And now you can buy a Square card reader with your Starbucks order. What?

Yup, next time you’re grabbing a grande coffee, you can also buy one of these little readers for $10 (with a $10 rebate if you’re a new user). That seems odd, but the explanation is that Starbucks is a big Square investor. Last year, Starbucks invested $25 million in Square as part of a deal that put the payment processors behind its counters. I don’t know why you’d buy a reader at a coffee shop when you can go to you know, Best Buy or Apple or the internet. But I suppose the answer is synergy. [TheNextWeb]
