Talking batteries? Technology's cool and all but really, a future where all of our routine objects talks to us is worse than a post-nuclear apocalypse.
Why not just make batteries wrapped in solarcells? Not only would such self-contained batteries store and recharge their own power. eliminating the need for separate external powerpacks, they would be eco- and space-efficient.
Wait, you mean that thing talks at you no matter what? You can't turn it off? That'd get really annoying. There's a more generic power pack like this that's been around for a while and only costs $99, so I'd recommend checking that one out. Thinkgeek.com has it, I think.
