We’ve seen Empire Robotic’s absurdly nimble soft robot in actionbefore. But now, the Versaball system is here to play a little beer pong. And it’s probably going to kick your ass.
As you can see from the GIF below, the robot’s hand is little more than a soft, bouncy sphere. But it can pump itself up with air at will, allowing it to flow around an object to twist open cans, change lightbulbs, and deal with sharp pointy things. In other words, it’s these types of robots that will be turning into the human prosthetics of tomorrow.
Which, if the video above is anything to go by, is going to mean some formidable foes at the nerdiest beer pong tables of tomorrow. [PopSci]
