Horror short The Maiden is described as “a dark tale of real estate, demonic houses, and Photoshop tutorials.” Because who needs a Ghostbuster when you’ve got elbow grease and serious ambition on your side?

Michael Chaves is not the first filmmaker to take advantage of the spooky ambiance of Los Angeles’ Beckett Residence. The run-down historic landmark is currently undergoing an extensive renovation—in its rougher years, it appeared onscreen in films like Rob Zombie’s Halloween. But while this particular mansion is no stranger to theatrical frights, The Maiden might be the first film set there that explores the perils of real estate, too.
