The dreaded Carrie remake is circling a director. Thankfully, it’s Kimberly Peirce of Boys Don’t Cry fame, which makes us slightly optimistic for her translation.

Deadline reports that the studio wants Peirce for their new Carrie. And while we’d love to see Pierce’s POV on Carrie, we can’t imagine anyone replacing the greatness that was Sissy Spacek’s performance. Even Stephen King doesn’t really see the value in a remake — then again, he still may be scarred by The Rage: Carrie 2. In the end, we’re torn. We desperately want a genre film from Peirce, but we’re suffering from “yet another remake” syndrome. What say you, io9ers?
