Adult Swim Australia promised the first look at the opening for season 3 of Rick and Morty. I got excited, because this has been a long time coming, and I was pumped to see what happens next. And then it rick rolled me.

The latest video from Adult Swim Australia was all, like, “EXCLUSIVE! SEASON 3 Opening Scene.” We’ve been waiting to hear when the show would return, after it was pushed back from 2016, something creator Dan Harmon has taken personal responsibility for. A new opening would mean progress, and possibly a confirmed 2017 release date. Only nope, psych.
Did I miss something? I thought Rickrolls, which are almost a decade old at this point, went to a farm upstate the moment Rick Astley performed the song on a Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade float. But who knows, maybe it’s retro now, and meme culture is moving so fast we’ve spun all the way around to the beginning. Or, more likely, the folks at Adult Swim Australia manipulated their audience for the sake of clicks on a tired, clichéd joke.
