A Professor Flunks an Entire Class, Saying All the Students Used ChatGPT
A Texas A&M—Commerce professor, Dr. Jared Mumm, gave every student in a class an incomplete, accusing them all of using AI to cheat, according to a screenshot of his email shared on Reddit and the partner of one of the flunked students. The professor fed his students’ final papers into ChatGPT and asked whether it had written the words. “I copy and paste your responses in [ChatGPT] and [it] will tell me if the program generated the content.” When the chatbot said it had written the words, the rodeo instructor lost it. The problem, though, is that there is no rigorous test for whether text was written by an AI.
